A golf course map print is a drawing of a real course, laid out hole by hole, usually with the course name and the golfer's details underneath. It is one of the few golf gifts that is about a specific place rather than the sport in general, which is why it works so well for someone who already has everything golf-shaped.
Here is what to know before you order one, from us or from anyone else.
1. Is it drawn from the real course?
This is the question that matters most. A good print is built from the course's actual layout: the right number of holes, in the right order, with each hole's par and yardage. Ours are drawn hole by hole from the course's real scorecard, eighteen holes set out in order, each with its number, par and length.
Ask any seller how they source the layout. "We'll make it look like a golf course" is not the same thing.
2. Which course, exactly?
Give the full name as the course writes it, plus the city and state. Many clubs have more than one course (a North and a South, an Old and a New). If his club has two, say which one he plays, or tell us in the note and we will ask.
3. Nine holes or eighteen?
If his course has nine holes, we draw it as it is played for a full round: the nine holes twice, 1 to 9 then 10 to 18. Just mention it in the note when you order.
4. What goes underneath?
Most people add the golfer's name. Many add the date and score of a round he still talks about: his first round under 90, the day he played with his father, a hole-in-one. Our guide on what to write on a personalized golf gift has examples.
5. Which size and finish?
- 12 × 16 in print, $39: heavy matte paper, unframed, fits a standard frame. The easiest gift to post and to wrap.
- 18 × 24 in print, $59: the size for an office wall or above a desk.
- Framed, from $99: white solid wood, shatterproof plexiglass, hanging hardware fitted. It arrives ready to hang.
- Canvas, from $79: stretched over a wooden frame, no glass. Good for dens and clubhouses.
The same drawing also comes on a desk mat, a golf towel, a puzzle, a pillow and a Christmas ornament.
6. How long does it take?
A personalized print is made after you order it. Ours wait 24 hours so you can fix a typo, then take 2 to 5 business days to print and 3 to 5 to ship: plan on 6 to 11 business days in the contiguous United States. For Christmas, order by December 10 (December 7 for Alaska, Hawaii and APO/FPO). Shipping is free.
7. Can you see it before it's printed?
You should be able to. On every personalized piece in our shop, tick "Email me a proof before production" and we will send you the finished design to approve before anything is made. It costs nothing.
